‘‘Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."

– Harriet Tubman.

I grew up in Kaneohe, Hawaii, where both my parents are physicians. I attended college at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. During that time, I took a two-year break from school to do a church mission in Arizona. When I returned home, I met my wife, Rose. Together, we have five kids (three girls and two boys).

I attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, graduating in 2011. I served as an Army dentist from 2011-2017. While in the Army, I had the opportunity to do a two-year general dentistry residency program, which helped me gain a deeper appreciation for all aspects of dentistry.

We then moved to the Port Angeles area because we fell in love with the beauty of the Olympic Peninsula.

Why He Chose Dentistry

During my freshman year of college, I got into an accident while snowboarding and had to go to the dentist. The dentist there was so nice and really seemed to enjoy what he was doing and got me out of a lot of pain!

I had been looking at doing some sort of professional health career, and the experience I had at this office piqued my interest in dentistry – the rest is history!

The best part of my job is to interact with and get to know some really amazing people on a daily basis.

Anything that I can do with my wife and five kids (Hiking, water activities, gardening, basketball, swimming, biking, etc.)

Your Hero

My hero is my wife. She has sacrificed so much for our family to be where we are today! I admire her daily. She is always helping and inspiring me to be a better husband, father, and clinician.

Best Day of Your Life

Best day of my life was the day I married my wife, Rose! The decision I made to marry her has helped mold me into the man I am today. She is the greatest cheerleader, best friend, and most trusted confidant that I could have ever asked for.

Ice Cream Flavor

I would be Caramel Caribou flavored ice cream. You’ve got it all in this flavor - good old vanilla, mixed with gobs of caramel, and chunks of chocolate filled with caramel. Yum!

‘‘Do what you can with what you have with where you are.”

– Teddy Roosevelt.

I grew up in Kennewick, WA. While earning my undergraduate degree at Eastern Washington University, I met what would become my future wife Lorraine, “Rainy.” Her hometown was Port Angeles, WA, and on many subsequent trips to visit I quickly fell in love with the area. Both my wife and I have degrees in biology, and we were both employed as environmental scientists after undergraduate school.

After graduating from college, our son Michael was born, and then six years later our daughter Genna came along. Both our children have been raised in Port Angeles.

Why He Chose Dentistry

My mentors Steven Matheson and David Roberts both helped steer me toward a dental career.

Steven Matheson was my dentist growing up, and he mentored me into the profession. While J. Martin Anderson, the restorative chair at the University of Washington, inspired me to focus on restorative skills and to be relentless in the pursuit of excellence from diagnosis to delivery to follow up.

I have always liked to build, with lego fascinating me and as a child, I built endlessly with those bricks – dentistry seemed to be a good fit.

Every day doing dentistry, there is a spectrum of life most people do not get to see from the very old to the very young and everything in between. I didn’t know that part of dentistry would be so rewarding.

I race with team Silver Sleeves in the 24 hours of LeMans endurance races and like fixing old mini coopers. I also produce the Cooper Stripes blog and am still involved with Scouting (ex-scout master).

Your Hero

Aristotle. He developed critical thinking, taxonomy, and espoused temperance as a virtue.

Best Day of Your Life

My wedding day. We are planning my daughter's wedding next year and looking back at how well our wedding went and how easy it seemed brought forth wonderful memories.

Ice Cream Flavor

I really like caramel cone - if you haven’t had it, you need to try it. It’s ice cream art just like the best parts are mixed together at our office.
